While PlayStation has always been entertaining, it hasn’t always been the most portable of games. Lugging around the console, controllers and screen, not to mention all the wiring, was, of course, impossible. The makers at Sony have now addressed this problem, offering the PSP (PlayStation Portable), which you can stuff in your suitcase, handbag or even back pocket.

The PSP is a conveniently compact version of the original PlayStation; its 6.7”x 2.9” frame makes it easy to control and even easier to carry. Its futuristic design is emphasized by its sleek black color, high resolution LCD screen and stereo speakers. Tune out the rest of the world with the PSP branded headphones, which feature a smart remote control that lets you play, pause, fast forward, rewind and adjust the volume.

Despite what its name may suggest, the PSP is not just for playing games. The featured Universal Media Disc (UMD) also lets you store photos, listen to music, watch movies and even surf the internet. A UMD movie costs around LE 150 while a UMD game costs around LE 370. If you’d rather save some money, the WiFi will smooth the process of downloading games and movies to the Memory Stick Duo, which can save up to 32 megabytes of data. You can even borrow a friend’s UMD and simply transfer files to your Memory Stick Duo, which is also capable of storing photos as well as MP3, MP4, ATRAC3 and WAV music files. Activate the infrared option and you can even play against your friends.

The lithium battery lasts for up to six hours and comes with a charger. If you’re traveling on a longer flight, the solar charger, powered by sunlight or normal electrical light, is the smarter option. A soft case, which comes with the PSP set, helps you keep the gadget protected, and the attached cloth helps you keep it clean. The Travel Pack will make it easy for you to keep your PSP and all its accessories safe and organized. The pack comes with retractable earphones, USB charging cable, USB data cable and car adaptor. It also has a place for storing UMD movies and games.

If you are a frequent traveler, and especially if you travel a lot with your children, the PSP is a wise investment that will keep you entertained for hours.

PSP available for LE 1,999 at Virgin Megastore. tt
